Mount Summit History
Before the town was officially established, Colonel Jesse Ice purchased approximately 360 acres of land in Henry County. In 1854, he officially platted the village (originally named "Summit"), which initially consisted of just 4 blocks and 15 lots. The town was named "Mount Summit" because it was situated on a well-drained, elevated piece of land that marked the highest point along the local transportation route.
